WHAT IF THERE IS MORE TO LIFE?

Today's Message for You

“I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.”

JOHN 6:35

Life is beyond what meets the eye. I know that sounds cliché, but I am not sure there are truer words than that. There is a longing in every human heart, a strange feeling that something is still missing even when life appears to be going well. We achieve what we once prayed for, arrive at places we once dreamed about, and obtain things we thought would finally make us happy. Yet, after a while, the longing returns.

So, we search. We search for satisfaction in success, relationships, money, pleasure, attention, possessions, and sometimes even religion. These things may make us happy for a while, but the excitement eventually fades, the achievement becomes normal, and we begin searching for the next thing. It is almost as though we are hungry but keep eating what cannot nourish us, thirsty but drinking what only leaves us wanting more. God once asked, “Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy?” (Isaiah 55:2).

What if the emptiness is not there because you have failed to acquire enough, but because you were made for more than anything this world can give?

When Jesus met the woman at the well, He met someone who understood thirst in more ways than one. He knew her history. He knew about the five husbands and the man she was presently with. He knew the places where she had searched for love and the disappointment she carried. Yet He did not expose her to humiliate her. He brought her hidden thirst into the light because He wanted her to recognize what she had truly been searching for. She had looked to people for something no person could fully provide, but Jesus stood before her and offered living water. What she had searched for and never found in all those places, He had it. More than that, He was it.

Jesus later said, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst” (John 6:35). Jesus does not merely give us something to satisfy the deepest hunger of the soul. He gives us Himself.

But our problem is deeper than emotional emptiness. Humanity has been separated from the God for whom it was created. We have searched for identity without the One who made us, love without the One who is Love, and life without the One from whom all life comes. No relationship can bear the weight of becoming our god. No achievement can tell us who we are forever. No pleasure can cleanse a guilty conscience, and no amount of approval can reconcile us to our Maker.

We could not repair this separation ourselves. Good works could not erase our sins, and religion could not make us alive. We needed more than advice or self-improvement. We needed rescue.

That is why Jesus came. God did not watch us searching from a distance. He came to us in Jesus Christ, who lived without sin and willingly went to the cross to bear the judgment our sins deserved. He died in our place and rose from the dead, overcoming sin and death. Through Him, forgiveness is offered, the guilty can be made clean, those far from God can be brought near, and the spiritually dead can receive eternal life.

Following Jesus does not mean that life will never be painful. It means that beneath every changing circumstance, your soul has finally found its home. Scripture says that God satisfies the longing soul and fills the hungry soul with goodness (Psalm 107:9). Jesus said that those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be filled (Matthew 5:6), and in God’s presence, there is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11).

So, what has your heart been yearning for? Where have you repeatedly gone, hoping that this time it will finally be enough? I promise you, it is not found in any of the vices you have resorted to. It is not hidden in the next achievement, relationship, possession, or moment of pleasure.

Jesus already knows your story, yet He has not come to shame you. He has come to offer you life. You do not have to clean yourself up before coming to Him. Come honestly. Turn away from the life you have built without Him. Believe that He died for your sins and rose again. Entrust your life to Him as your Lord and Savior, yielding to His authority over how you live, and receive the forgiveness and eternal life He freely offers.

Perhaps the longing within you has been pointing to Him all along.
